CUYABENO BIOLOGICAL STATION
FOR AMAZON RESEARCH
During the early nineteen eighties, the Department of Biology of the Pontificia
Universidad Catolica del Ecuador had constructed a biological station
for Amazon research at the
Grand Cuyabeno Lake. For almost a decade, biologists from different parts of the
world and a good number of biology students from Ecuador were using the basic, but functional
research
facilities in this Amazonian national park as the basis for their research.

When the Cuyabeno
Biological Station burnt down, the Cuyabeno Lodge helped out by providing
accommodation to biology students and resident biologists and
since then it has functioned as the new Cuyabeno Biological Station. The Cuyabeno Lodge has always provided
a large structure for use by the National Parks Service. This structure also
functions
as the Biological Station and special accommodation arrangement are made for
biology students and biologists who have official permission for
